Beat the Summer Blues: Popular Holiday Havens in the Philippines

Let’s face it: summer in the Philippines is hot, humid, and really stifling. Sometimes, all you want to do is to hole up in an air conditioned room and stay there the entire season! The alternative is to keep taking cold baths every now and then—or even live in an ice bath! Either way, to beat the heat, people usually hole themselves up indoors.

But then, when you stay indoors, you’ll be missing out on the perfect beach and vacation weather! What a conundrum, right? Don’t worry, though. We’ve listed down the best summer beach and vacation spots in the PH! Let’s enjoy summer the way we want this 2015!

1. Anilao, Batangas

One of the best beaches this side of Batangas, Anilao is home to many beach-bum favorite resorts and getaways. Only two and a half hours from Manila, this southern stretch of beaches and cozy resorts along Batangas Bay and Balayan Bay, are a haven to those who want to relax, swim, and explore. Anilao is home to a number of diving spots like Matu Point, and diver’s resorts like Anilao Discovery Bay, Aiyanar Beach & Dive, and Dive Solana.

2. Laiya, Batangas

Another amazing Batangas beach spot, Laiya is popular among the more adventurous types. Want to get out of your comfort zone? Laiya’s Coco Grove Resort is a beachside resort with actual tree house accommodations!

There are also other beaches and resorts along Laiya road in Batangas overlooking Tayabas Bay. There’s White Cove, Acuaverde, Acuatico, and more private resorts and public beaches that you can go to enjoy the sun, sand, and sea. Go kayaking, boating, snorkeling, and even diving for a fun and adventurous summer!

3. Coron, Palawan

Do you like hiking? Do you like swimming? Coron might be the perfect place for you! Known for its natural beauty, Coron is a tropical paradise for those who wants to get some quality R&R away from the buzz of the city. Forbes Traveler Magazine listed Coron as one of the top 10 best scuba diving sites in the world; you can see a number of sunken Japanese warships when you go diving at Coron.

Not the aquatic type? Try mountain climbing and hiking in Coron! The island is home to lush forested mountains, the most famous one being Mt. Tapyas. Get to the peak of Mt. Tapyas and the view that will greet you is breathtaking. Don’t forget to bring lots of water and a camera to document your adventure!

4. Batanes

Not the beach type? Head north to Batanes! There are miles upon miles of hills, mountains, and lush green fields in the 10 islands of Batanes. The three largest islands are Batan, Itbayat, and Sabtang. Situated between the Bashi Channel and Balintang Channel, Batanes Islands is one of the provinces of the Philippines where the pre-hispanic culture, language, and traditions of the Ivatan are still being practiced every day.

Due to its natural beauty and cultural significance, Batanes was proposed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993. Definitely check this place out in the summer, especially if you want a place to slow down from the fast-paced city life.

Round up your friends and explore these holiday havens this summer. Palawan is easily accessible by plane and you can try to take advantage of budget fares on offer. Up for a long road trip? Anilao and Laiya would make great destinations! Just make sure your car is road-worthy before you go to avoid problems. It also helps to make sure you’re covered by comprehensive car insurance in case of an emergency. Happy summer!
